The Hostel is situated in the Valle dell'Elsa on Via Francigena, a place of transit for pilgrims and travellers on their way to Rome from Northern Europe during Medieval Times. From the XIIth Century onwards it had great political, econimic and artistic importance, due to its location on the borders of Florence, Pisa and Siena: cities that have dominated art in all its expressive forms. Today Castelfiorentino offers the visitor the occasion of finding the vestiges of a frontier land, where the works of the Museum of Santa Verdiana are only but a few elements of a rich artistic heritage.
