Country Overview
See golden eagles and flying squirrels; hike along nature trails; visit ancient villages; horseride through extensive forests; canoe across shimmering lakes; go bog walking; eat smoked trout. A fully independent nation since 1991, Estonia is a country of colourful folk traditions, of rivers and streams - and of mud cures. Tallinn, the capital, is an almost perfectly preserved medieval city of winding streets, cobblestones and turrets, and boasts a buzzing nightlife as well as a collection of intriguing museums. The northern countryside beyond features graceful manor houses, Russian Orthodox churches and the glories of the Lahemaa National Park, with its 7,000–year–old bog. The west coast offers the beaches of the Baltic Sea and a number of health spas including the graceful seaside town of Parnu. The south is a land of woods, hills, lakes and picturesque villages. Estonia's network of hostels provides access to most of the highlights of this tranquil country.Membership
